What is a Community Group?
We believe that small groups are the best place for sustained life change to occur. In a small group, people study God’s Word together and discuss the issues and challenges of life. It’s also where they pray together, care for one another, and are missed if they don’t show up.
Practically speaking, there isn’t a way for the church staff or leadership board to personally minister to everyone who attends Waverley. That’s why small groups are so important because it is how we can be most effective at ministering to people’s needs.
Community groups are small groups of 6-8 individuals or 5-6 married couples who meet in someone’s home for fellowship, Bible study, prayer and accountability. They are closed groups with a commitment to meet together for 12-24 months. The close of a group usually ends with multiplication where the group divides and re-builds.
We want to have Community groups for college and university students, married couples, men and ladies.
The very first group that each person participates in is called a Starter group. These groups are shorter in length (approximately 8 weeks). They function as a kind of trial group to give people an opportunity to say “yes, I want to continue on” or “no, I’d like to try again with another group of people.” Starter groups are set up to lower the obstacles that keep people from participating in a small group.
GroupLink:
GroupLink is a 2 hour event where participants meet and connect with others in their area and stage of life for the purpose of forming a community group. Attending a GroupLink event is the first step to joining a community group. GroupLink events are held 2 times a year.
When you attend a GroupLink event you will be given the choice to sign up for a community group. We will be asking you initially to commit to meeting with your group for 8 weeks. You will spend that time getting to know each other and doing a short Bible study together. At the end of the 8 weeks, you can choose to continue with your group, or we will help you find another group.
