Our priorities and self-control determine where our money goes. Most of us have the wrong priorities, thinking that we ought to spend first, pay debt and taxes next, then save and lastly, give. This is the ownership model—the idea that we start by covering our needs and wants and then give God the leftovers. Matthew 6, however, provides a different model: a stewardship mentality. Jesus speaks of first investing in God’s kingdom and then looking to Him to provide our needs. This requires rethinking our entire financial world and reversing our priorities: now giving first, saving second and spending last. With this stewardship mindset, the weight of your financial world will be lifted, and you will be able to enjoy true peace.
